Don't hate your brother

Recently, I had to tell someone close to me a very hard thing. (He calls himself a Christian.)

I shared the following with him:

“Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt” (Lev 19:17).

I won’t go into the details but I said even if I have to tell him he’s wrong a hundred times, it’s better to do that than hate him in my heart.

Now even though the person I mentioned above claims to be a Christian, he doesn’t go to church, so I really can’t take this particular issue much further. But what if he did go to church, what then? How should we deal with a sinning brother ?

And what does it mean to turn the other cheek?
